Features of the Corten Steel H Beam

Corten Steel H Beam are steel beams made of rolled steel in the shape of the letter "H". They are produced as combined units. The flanges are welded to the base and form an H-profile. Corten Steel H Beams are also known as wide flange beams.

Compared to the I-beam, the thickness of the Corten Steel H Beam is greater. This added thickness provides the strength of the Corten Steel H Beam.

The flanges of the Corten Steel H Beams have the same thickness and are parallel to each other. They are longer, wider and heavier than I-beams.

The cross-section of the Corten Steel H Beam is more optimized than the cross-section of the I-beam and has a reasonable strength-to-weight ratio, i.e. higher strength per unit area. They have a larger cross-sectional area and thus higher strength.

The Corten Steel H Beam achieves a greater moment of inertia and higher lateral stiffness. Therefore, they have better bending resistance than engineering beams.

Corten Steel H Beams are used for spans up to 330 feet and can be built to any size and height.

Corten Steel H Beams are heavier than I-beams. Corten Steel H Beam profiles can withstand direct and tensile loads. Its wide cross section allows it to withstand torsional loads.

FAQ

image007

Q: What are the benefits of using Corten H Beams over regular steel beams?

A: Compared to standard carbon steel beams, Corten H Beams develop a stable rust-like patina that protects the material from further corrosion. This eliminates the need for painting or coating and reduces long-term maintenance costs. They also offer excellent mechanical strength and a distinct aesthetic appeal.

Q: In what applications are Corten H Beams commonly used?

A: Corten H Beams are used in architectural structures, bridges, outdoor buildings, container frames, landscape features, and industrial supports - anywhere that requires strength, durability, and corrosion resistance.

Q: Do Corten H Beams require painting or coating?

A: No. The key advantage of Corten steel is its ability to form a self-protecting rust layer, which serves as a natural barrier against corrosion. This eliminates the need for surface treatments in most environments.

Q: Can Corten H Beams be welded and cut like normal steel?

A: Yes. Corten steel can be welded, cut, drilled, and formed using standard steel processing methods. However, matching filler metals are recommended during welding for optimal corrosion resistance.
