Products Description
ASTM A572 steel angle is another high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) columbium-vanadium steel sections. Owing to small amount of columbium & vanadium alloy elements, hot rolled A572 steel angle has better properties than carbon steel A36.

First, A572 has higher strength than A36 like in yield strength and tensile strength. Second, it is easy to weld, form and machine.

A572 steel angle features & benefits
Excellent Strength-to-Weight Ratio
A572-50 steel offers an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio, making it highly suitable for structural applications where weight is a critical factor.
For example, in bridges, towers, or large-scale steel construction projects, it ensures sufficient load-bearing capacity while effectively reducing overall weight. This not only lowers material costs but also simplifies transportation and installation.
Stronger Than Mild Carbon A36 Steel
Compared with commonly used A36 carbon steel angle, A572-50 delivers significantly higher mechanical performance:
A36 Steel: Typical yield strength ≈ 36 ksi (about 250 MPa)
A572-50 Steel: Minimum yield strength ≥ 50 ksi (about 345 MPa)
This means that with the same cross-sectional size, A572-50 can carry heavier loads, offering safer and more cost-effective design options.
Reliable Mechanical Properties
Yield Strength (YS): ≥ 50 ksi (≈ 345 MPa)
Tensile Strength (UTS): ≥ 65 ksi (≈ 450 MPa)
Elongation: Good ductility, ensuring toughness and resistance to brittle failure under stress
These properties guarantee a balance of strength and resilience, making the steel suitable for demanding engineering applications.
Ideal Engineering Applications
Thanks to its strength, toughness, and durability, A572-50 is widely used in:
- Steel building frameworks
- Bridge structural components
- Towers and trusses
- Industrial equipment frames
- Long-span structures or projects requiring weight reduction
Compared with mild carbon steels, A572-50 not only meets higher strength requirements but also maintains long-term structural stability. It is the ideal choice for engineering projects where both strength and cost-efficiency are key considerations.
