1. Light Transmission Principle & Design Types
Perforated Hollow Partitions: The most common light-transmitting design. CNC laser cutting is used to create regular or irregular holes (e.g., circular, square, geometric patterns) on the steel plate. The size, density, and arrangement of the holes determine the light transmittance-larger holes or higher density mean more light can pass through. For example, partitions with 30–40% open area can filter soft, diffused light, suitable for indoor-outdoor transition spaces.
Slatted Hollow Partitions: Composed of parallel weathering steel slats with gaps between them. Light can pass through the slat gaps, and the light intensity can be adjusted by changing the gap width (5–20 mm is common). This design also provides partial privacy while allowing light penetration.
Hollow Frame Partitions: The partition is made of a weathering steel frame with large hollow areas, and transparent materials (e.g., tempered glass, polycarbonate panels) can be embedded in the frame. This combination retains the rustic aesthetic of weathering steel while maximizing light transmission.

2. Key Considerations for Light-Transmitting Design
Structural Stability: When increasing the size or density of hollow openings to improve light transmittance, add a reinforced back frame (made of weathering steel or stainless steel) to prevent the partition from deforming under wind loads or gravity-especially for large-scale outdoor partitions.
Patina Uniformity: The edges of hollow openings will form patina along with the rest of the partition surface. To avoid uneven color, apply artificial patina acceleration to the entire partition after processing, ensuring the patina develops uniformly on both the solid surface and the hole edges.
Light Diffusion Effect: Weathering steel's reddish-brown patina will filter light, casting warm, soft shadows on the opposite side. This creates a unique aesthetic effect, making the partition suitable for decorative applications in gardens, lobbies, or balconies.

3. Scenario-Specific Applications
Indoor Spaces: Light-transmitting weathering steel hollow partitions can be used as room dividers, separating living areas from dining areas while maintaining natural light flow and air circulation.
Outdoor Spaces: In gardens or patios, perforated partitions can act as privacy screens that block direct views but allow sunlight and breeze to pass through, creating a comfortable semi-open space.
