1. Atmospheric environment & pollutants
Industrial atmosphere (SO₂, dust, smoke)High concentrations of sulfur dioxide and industrial particles accelerate patina formation, resulting in a dark, deep chocolate brown or brownish‑black patina that is dense and stable.
Urban atmosphereModerate pollution leads to reddish‑brown or medium brown patina, with a typical maturation time of 1–3 years.
Rural / clean atmosphereLow pollution slows patina maturation. The color is usually light orange‑brown or yellow‑brown, lighter and softer than in industrial areas.
Coastal / marine atmosphere (chloride ions)Salt spray and chloride ions disrupt the formation of dense patina, often leading to a pale, uneven, patchy light brown.Stable mature patina is difficult to form; loose rust and inconsistent color are common.

2. Humidity & wet‑dry cycles
