Products Description

Corten Steel Coil is a high-performance structural material. It has a typical yield strength of around 345 MPa, a tensile strength ranging from 470–630 MPa, and an elongation of 18–21%, combining both strength and toughness.
When exposed to natural environments, it forms a stable protective patina with a thickness of 50–100 μm, which effectively prevents further corrosion.
Unlike ordinary carbon steel, the rust layer on Corten Steel Coil does not continue to penetrate inward but instead acts as a barrier to protect the steel substrate.
As a result, its corrosion rate in humid or marine environments is 3–5 times lower than that of conventional steel.

Types of Corten Coil
There are various varieties of Corten steel coils, each designed for a specific, mostly architectural, application that can benefit from the strength and weather resistance of the alloy:
Corten A (ASTM A242): A lightweight option for architectural applications, from facades to decorative panels that maintains a uniform rust-like appearance and offers good corrosion resistance.
Corten B (ASTM A588): Much stronger, this type works well for heavy structures like bridges and industrial buildings capable of withstanding much more stress without sacrificing outstanding weather resistance.
ASTM A606 Type 4: This commonly used type is used in coil or sheet form for roofing, siding and exterior panels. It's known for good formability, good shape retention, and good durability.

Applications of Corten Coil in Different Industries
Architecture – In modern architecture, Corten Coil is widely used for building facades and wall cladding. It offers a yield strength of about 345 MPa, tensile strength ranging from 470–630 MPa, and elongation of 18–21%, ensuring both strength and toughness in building structures. Its naturally formed 50–100 μm thick protective oxide layer not only provides a unique texture and appearance but also extends the service life of structures in outdoor environments to 80–100 years.
Construction Engineering – Corten Coil is an ideal material for bridges, roofs, and structural supports. Compared with ordinary carbon steel, its corrosion rate is 3–5 times lower, allowing it to maintain stability and durability under wind and traffic loads, while significantly reducing maintenance and repainting costs.
Outdoor Sculptures and Artworks – The surface of Corten Coil develops a natural rust layer that is both aesthetically appealing and functionally protective. This oxide layer, with a thickness of 50–100 μm, prevents further corrosion. Many outdoor sculptures made with Corten Coil remain structurally sound and visually attractive even after decades of exposure.
Transportation – Corten Coil is widely used in railcars, shipping containers, and truck bodies. With a Brinell hardness of 170–200 HBW and superior corrosion resistance, transportation equipment made with Corten Coil can achieve a service life of 20–30 years
