Why Use Corten Steel Tree Ring Edging?

Height determines how much soil, mulch or gravel the ring can retain. A 100–150 mm ring works well as standard circular landscape edging, while 200–300 mm designs can form a raised tree bed.

Thickness should be selected according to diameter, height and external load. Large-diameter or raised rings generally require thicker steel or internal reinforcement to prevent deformation.

Raw and Pre-Rusted Corten Steel Tree Rings

Raw weathering steel is supplied in its original dark grey condition. After outdoor exposure, the surface changes through orange and brown tones before developing a more stable dark-brown patina.

Pre-rusted Corten steel garden tree rings are weathered before delivery, providing a more consistent appearance at installation. A sealing treatment can also be applied when the project requires reduced rust transfer during the initial weathering period.

Because runoff from newly weathering steel may stain pale concrete or stone, the installation design should include drainage gaps, gravel separation or a suitable distance from stain-sensitive paving.

Prepare and level the circular installation area before positioning the ring. Assemble segmented sections around the tree, check the diameter and confirm that the border does not contact the trunk.

The lower edge can be partially buried for stability or secured with ground stakes and anchor holes. Where a raised tree ring is required, confirm that the joints and plate thickness can resist the pressure from soil or mulch.

Provide drainage so water does not remain trapped around the tree. Mulch should be distributed evenly inside the ring without being piled directly against the trunk.
