Hot Rolled Corten Plate/Coil refers to weathering steel (Corten steel) products manufactured through the hot rolling process, widely known under material standards such as ASTM A588, A242, COR-TEN® A/B, S355J0WP, Q355NH, Q345GNH, etc.
1. Basic Definition
Corten steel: A high-strength, low-alloy steel containing small amounts of Cu, P, Cr, Ni that forms a dense, protective patina in the atmosphere to slow down corrosion.
Hot rolled: The steel is heated above recrystallization temperature (around 1200°C) and rolled into plates or coils while hot, then cooled in air or under controlled cooling.
2. Main Characteristics of Hot Rolled Corten
Thicker dimensions: Typically from 1.5 mm up to 100 mm or more; coils are usually thinner and wider for continuous processing.
Rougher surface finish: Dark oxide scale on the surface, not as smooth as cold-rolled steel.
Higher strength and better toughness compared to cold-rolled Corten in thick sections.
Lower internal stress: Less prone to warping than cold-rolled products.
Lower production cost than cold-rolled Corten.

3. Typical Forms
Hot Rolled Corten Plate: Cut-to-length sheets for structural parts, building facades, signage, sculptures, shipping containers.
Hot Rolled Corten Coil: Coiled strips for further processing (cutting, bending, welding, stamping).
