The service life of Corten steel edging varies significantly depending on factors such as the service environment and steel plate thickness. Under conventional conditions, it can generally last 20-30 years; in ideal circumstances, the service life can be extended to over 50 years, while in harsh environments, it may be shortened to 15-25 years. Details are as follows:
Dry inland environments
In arid and rainless inland urban parks and squares (e.g., for Corten steel tree pit edging or flower bed edging), the corrosion rate is extremely slow. If plates with a thickness of 3mm or more are selected, the service life can usually reach 30-50 years, and some properly installed and maintained ones can even approach 100 years.
Humid and rainy areas
In the humid and rainy climate of southern regions, the long-term high air humidity will accelerate the initial rusting process of Corten steel surfaces. The service life of Corten steel edging in such environments is generally 20-30 years. If the edging uses thin plates with a thickness of only about 1.5mm, the service life may be close to the lower limit of this range.

Coastal or industrial areas
Coastal air contains high levels of salt spray, and industrial areas have large amounts of corrosive gases such as sulfur dioxide, both of which can damage the dense rust layer on the surface of Corten steel. The service life of Corten steel edging here is usually only 15-25 years. Without additional anti-corrosion treatment, thin plates may suffer local damage in less than 15 years.

In addition, proper basic maintenance can extend its service life, such as regularly cleaning surface debris to avoid damaging the rust layer and ensuring smooth drainage at the installation site to prevent water accumulation and corrosion. If additional protective paint is applied in highly corrosive environments, the service life can be further prolonged.
