Stability of mature patina (12–24 months after formation)
After the patina fully matures into a dense, firm oxide film tightly bonded to the steel surface, it forms a permanent protective barrier. The core reddish-brown hue will not fade, bleach or turn pale even after years of exposure to wind, rain, sunlight and mild atmospheric corrosion. The patina's color may only develop a slight, natural mellowing over time (darker or richer tone), which is a normal aging effect and enhances its natural aesthetic rather than being a "fade".
No fading in normal outdoor environments
In standard urban, rural, garden or temperate mild coastal areas (farther than 1km from the sea), the mature patina's color stability is fully guaranteed. The alloy elements (Cu/Cr/Ni) in SPA-H steel form a chemically stable oxide composition in the patina, which resists UV radiation, rain wash and temperature changes, eliminating the risk of color loss or fading that plagues painted/coated metal products.
Minor color changes in harsh environments (not fading)
In high-salt coastal zones, heavy industrial acid mist areas or high-humidity closed spaces, the patina may not fade but may have local uneven darkening (due to slight pitting corrosion) or a thin grayish surface layer (from dust/industrial residue accumulation). These are not fading phenomena-they can be easily improved by gentle water rinsing (for dust) or a thin transparent sealer (for harsh corrosion), and the core reddish-brown patina remains intact underneath.
Key reason for non-fading: structural characteristics of SPA-H patina
Unlike paint/coating colors that sit on the metal surface and peel/fade due to environmental erosion, the SPA-H patina is a metallurgically bonded oxide layer formed by the reaction of the steel's internal alloy elements with the external environment. It grows from the steel surface outward and is an integral part of the base metal, so it cannot be washed away or faded by external factors, and even minor damage can self-repair to restore the original color and structure.
