Forging and Forming Process

Hot Forging / Hot Rolling:
S355J0WP plates are primarily produced through hot forging or hot rolling processes, typically within the temperature range of 750–1050°C. This ensures the steel achieves uniform microstructure, high strength, and toughness.

Heat Treatment:
After heavy cold forming or hot forming outside the recommended temperature range, the steel may undergo normalization or stress relief annealing to restore mechanical properties.

Normalization: Refines grain structure and improves toughness.

Stress Relief Annealing: Reduces residual stress from welding or cold working, enhancing dimensional stability.

Cold Forming:
S355J0WP can also be cold-formed for structural components. However, significant cold deformation requires post-forming heat treatment to maintain optimal mechanical performance.

Surface Properties:
During forging and forming, the steel retains its ability to develop a protective oxide layer (patina) when exposed to the atmosphere, ensuring long-term corrosion resistance without coating or painting.

Suitable Applications

Due to its combination of structural strength, corrosion resistance, and aesthetic appeal, S355J0WP is use for the following fields:

Architecture & Building Facades, Cladding, curtain walls, canopies, pergolas, and decorative panels.

The natural rust patina provides a low-maintenance, visually appealing finish for urban and landscape projects.

Bridges & Infrastructure

Structural components such as decks, girders, and railings.

Resists atmospheric corrosion in industrial, coastal, and urban environments, extending maintenance cycles.

Sculptures & Outdoor Art

Monuments, public art, and landscape sculptures.

Develops a durable and evolving rust surface, combining aesthetics with longevity.

Industrial Equipment

Heat exchangers, chimneys, flue gas ducts, and chemical plant structures.

Protects against sulfuric acid dew point corrosion and other atmospheric corrosive elements.

Urban Landscape & Marine Applications

Planters, retaining walls, railings, and coastal structures.
