1. Use professional weathering steel accelerants (most effective)
Apply commercial weathering steel color-forming agents (based on dilute ferric chloride, copper salt, mild acid complex).
Spray evenly on clean, shot-blasted surface.
Can form a stable deep brown patina in 1–3 months instead of 1–3 years.
2. Create frequent wet–dry cycles
Manually spray water evenly 1–2 times per day for 2–4 weeks.
Keep surface moist but not soaked, then let dry fully in sunlight and wind.
This simulates ideal natural conditions and greatly speeds up oxidation.

3. Ensure sufficient sunlight and ventilation
Install cladding in well-ventilated, sun-exposed areas.
Shading or stagnant moisture slows patina and causes unevenness.
4. Proper surface pretreatment
Do shot blasting or sandblasting before installation.
Rough surface increases adhesion and speeds up uniform rusting.
Remove oil, dust, and grease first.

5. Mild industrial atmosphere exposure
Slight amounts of SO₂/NOₓ (urban or light industrial air) promote dense patina.
If indoors or in very clean rural areas, patina will be slower.
What to avoid
Do not use high-concentration industrial acids (e.g., hydrochloric acid), which cause over-etching, pitting, and weak corrosion resistance.
Do not let water accumulate for long periods.
